• Indore local Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) was started as Sub-Centre in 1969 and eventually upgraded to local Centre. The governing body of Shri G. S. institute of Technology and Science, Indore was kind enough to accommodate, on its campus, the office of the Centre since its inception.
• Dr. S. M. Dasgupta, the then Director and Prof. D. G. Dhavlikar, the then Professor and Head Civil Engineering Department of SGSITS, Indore were respectively the first chairman and Honorary Secretary of the sub-center which had started with an initial membership of 50 corporate members.
• The Strength grew gradually and today it stands at 1678 corporate members, 11 Institutional Members, 2 Students Chapters and 4583 Student and Technician Members attached to the Centre. Many of the corporate members are serving in various fields and playing very important role in the development of the nation. Indore local Centre has also contributed in solving many local and regional problems, like town planning, drainage system of cities, water supply system of Indore City. It has also contributed significantly in selection, development and establishment of industrial areas of Dewas and Pithampur.

The Local Centre organizes various technical activities from time to time in the interest of engineering fraternity and society. In the recent years’ big events have been organized such as a two-day workshop on Industry- academia interface, Engineers’ Day, 2-day National Workshop on Safety Health and Environment: Issues and Challenges in Realistic World, Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Advancements, Net Zero – 2070 etc.
